The CSS technology acts as stay-in-place forms for piers, drilled shafts, marine piles, girders, columns, and pylons, thereby eliminating the need for steel rebar cages. Using pre-manufactured composite materials such as FRP rebar, tendons, deck systems, and formwork, CSI can design new structures that are lighter, stronger, and innovative in appearance and performance. The use of these composite components allows for longer spans, reduced sub-grade efforts, shorter project duration, reduced project costs, and they eliminate the continuous maintenance associated with the corrosion of conventional steel rebar. The CSS can deal with higher loading conditions, seismic resistance, and blast mitigation at the same time. Therefore, most critical structures in seismic zone will benefit most by using our CSS. The CSS can support much higher loading conditions in most applications and the size of a column or pier can be reduced by up to 33%.

RetroShield
Retrosheld is CSI’s composite retrofit system. Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) retrofit technology has been developed at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) since 1986. Charles Lee Powell Laboratories at UCSD has been the key testing facility for this technology. UCSD even obtained a patent on the retrofit system using FRP. Lightweight and easy to install, FRP composites show a remarkable ability to improve a structure’s load rating while limiting the effect on facility’s operations. Retroshield typically result in no loss of usable space or functionality and can be implemented with minimal impact to occupants or operations. FRP technology has used for over a decade around the world for many projects for seismic, strengthening and corrosion protection.
CSI’s Retroshield offers a comprehensive solution that includes sophisticated software analysis, innovative design and materials selection based on data gathered from 20 years of testing conducted by the UCSD laboratories. The software speeds the retrofit process by making calculations more accurate, faster, and easier. The software incorporates composite materials with concrete and steel models to select optimized solutions individual to each project.
Blast Mitigation
Advanced composite technology can be used effectively for blast mitigation. UCSD features unique blast simulator to test all kinds of blast conditions on various kinds of structural components. CSI’s unique relationship with UCSD enables us to access the sensitive technology. We are limiting the access to this technology in some cases. Any particular projects shall be brought to CSI’s attention to be screened for eligibility.
